Have you heard that Arizona has more boats per capita than any other state? Well I don’t believe it’s true but there are a number of sources that have made the statement. There are even a number of articles on the subject.
Whether or not the above statement is true, Arizona does have many lakes within easy driving distance from the greater Phoenix area. Each of the lakes offers an abundance of activities, including boating, sailing, water skiing, and swimming. Some even have RV access and camping. If you are an avid fisherman, you will find some of the best bass fishing in the country.
The colorful painted canyon walls of Canyon, Saguaro and Apache Lakes are spectacular so don’t forget your camera. There’s also a chance you may spot javelina (wild pigs), mountain sheep, eagles, deer or an occasional black bear. At Lake Pleasant you might be treated to the wild burros.
Hiking is another huge activity here in the valley. Whether you are a beginning hiker or advanced, there is a trail for you. Just be sure you are well prepared and have plenty of water to drink. |
